Upon arriving in New York City, one of the first things you’ll have to do is arrange for transportation. Since most people don’t rent cars here, you’ll need to take a Taxi, use the subway or call a car service.

Airports

3 airports service New York: JFK, LaGuardia and Newark International.

JFK Airport – JFK is located onJamaica Bay in the southeastern section of Queens County, New York City. The airport is located 15 miles by highway from midtown Manhattan.

  • Rental Cars: Consult this list of rental car companies serving JFK if you need to rent a car. Renting a car is only advisable if you plan to take trips outside of the major metropolitan area. Parking is both expensive and difficult to find.
  •  Taxis: $52 flat fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location. Taxis are available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi.

LaGuardia Airport – LGA is located in Queens, LGA is 8 miles from midtown Manhattan and located on Flushing Bay and Bowery Bay.

  • Rental Cars: Consult this list of rental car companies serving LGA if you need to rent a car. Visitors to New York City are discouraged from renting cars, unless they’re planning extensive travel outside of the major metropolitan area.
  •  Taxis: Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location. Taxis are available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi.

Newark International Airport – EWR is located partly in Newark and partly in Elizabeth, Newark is located only 14 miles from Manhattan, serving a critical role for the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area.

  •  Rental Cars: Consult this list of rental car companies serving EWR if you need to rent a car. Again, renting a car is discouraged unless you plan to travel outside the major metropolitan area.
  •  Taxis:  from EWR Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location, approximately $50-75. Taxis are available outside of every terminal and there is typically a taxi stand where you will be directed to a taxi.

Car Service

Your best option is to hire a car service to transport you from your home or office to the airport or train station. A chauffeur will greet you upon your arrival, assist with bags and transport you from JFK, LaGuardia, Newark Airport or Penn Station right to the front door of your hotel or venue.
